Art has always been an important source of inspiration for Tania Singer and the dialogue between art and science constitutes therefore an important pillar for her work. In the past, she has thus helped develop several project that create a link between artists and scientists.

Cooperation with Olafur Eliasson

Workshop: Compassion. Bridging Practice and Science
July 10th - 23rd 2011 - One example for such a fruitful cooperation was the development of the eBook "Compassion. Bridging Practice and Science", a book that originated from the Workshop "How to train Compassion" organized by Tania Singer in July 2011 in the studio of the world-renown artist Olafur Eliasson. Scientists, clinical psychologists and Buddhist monks and nuns gathered to discuss the relevance of training compassion for many different domains in our modern society. At the end of this inspiring workshop all participants developed the wish to share this precious knowledge with the wider public and make it freely available. more
Ebook Launch
The result was the eBook, which contains not only chapters written by workshop participants, but also lots of videos by the authors, sound collages by Nathalie Singer, and photos by artist Olafur Eliasson. It was published here for free on September 16, 2013 and was viewed and downloaded by several thousand people around the globe in the first few months. The eBook was presented to the German press at Studio Olafur Eliasson in Berlin. Several authors were present. It combines facts from research with reports from practice and offers and is supplemented by multimedia elements and artistic works by Olafur Eliasson. Furthermore, the documentary "Raising Compassion", made on behalf of the Max Planck Institute and produced by Studio Olafur Eliasson, was created during the workshop. more
Raising Compassion
September 16th 2013 - "Raising Compassion" documents a unique exchange between science, art and contemplative practice. The protagonists discussed the notions of compassion in the public, the exchange of training programs at various research centers, as well as experiences in the penal system or in hospitals - not least to create awareness for the relevance and potential of such programs for society and politics. more
Power and Care Conference
September 9 - 11, 2016 - Olafur Eliasson contributed a unique installation to the Power and Care Conference co-organized by Tania Singer in Brussels, Belgium, in September 2016. more
IN REAL LIFE
July 11, 2019 - This book was created as part of the project IN REAL LIFE (the exhibition is currently located at the Tate Modern in London). It offers a series of short dialogues of people working both inside and outside the arts - from anthropology and economics, political science and biology, architecture and urban design, dance, music and food - For Tania Singer's contribution read more
